When life doesn’t go as planned, it’s not failure — it’s direction. Here’s how I learned to see rejection as divine redirection and how every “no” became a quiet form of protection.
I recently had an interview at one of my favorite companies — a popular mindfulness app that felt perfectly aligned with my personal brand and vision, but also seemed like an exciting opportunity to grow my tech skills.
However, I didn’t get the role.
It was a senior-level engineer position that required more hands-on programming experience than I currently have. Although I made a good impression overall, they couldn’t take a chance on me just yet — being a small team, they needed someone ready to code on day one.
And honestly, I accepted that. The experience was still refreshing — far better than past interviews that left me feeling demoralized and disoriented. Some of those roles were technically aligned to my skillset, yet something deeper was off — I wasn’t a culture fit, or it simply wasn’t my time.
When the No Is Really a Nudge
Throughout this past year — navigating life changes, multiple rejections, and even debating whether to ask for my old job back — I’ve realized I’m in this season for a reason.
Every “no” has forced me to pause, to redirect my energy, and to realign my intentions. Each rejection became a quiet push toward something that actually fits — continuing the unpredictable (and often uncomfortable) path of entrepreneurship.
In all fairness, the job market is unstable. So I thought: if both paths come with risk, I’d rather learn ownership than keep placing my stability in someone else’s hands. Working for another company often means surrendering control of your livelihood to decisions you can’t predict — and while I’m deeply grateful for the teams I’ve been part of, I’m learning that security built from self-trust feels different.
Trusting the Pull Toward Growth
It feels as if God — or whichever higher power you believe in — is gently pushing me out of old patterns and into new levels of growth. Asking me to trust, even when nothing makes sense yet.
We can’t predict the future, but we can hold a vision. I see mine clearly: CocoGlows evolving far beyond yoga videos into something holistic, soulful, and deeply supportive for others navigating similar transitions.
And part of that requires showing the messy middle — building in public, sharing the vulnerable parts, and being transparent about what this journey really looks like. Because I’m not the only one figuring it out. Community is everything.
Gratitude for the Redirection
So I say this with gratitude: I’m thankful for the redirection.
As much as I crave stability, I know now that divine detours are part of protection. God has always provided — in ways I couldn’t see at first. There’s a reason “In God We Trust” is written on the dollar. It’s a daily reminder that faith and surrender often precede fruit.
When we loosen our grip on what we thought life should look like, we make space for what’s meant for us to arrive — effortlessly, in divine timing.
Journal Prompts for Reflection
If you’re in a season of redirection or uncertainty, take a moment to journal on these:
- When has redirection in your life felt the most uncomfortable, yet turned out to be for your highest good?
- Looking at where you are now, what parts of your old self did you have to shed to step into this new space?
- Is the life you’re living now something you once prayed for or envisioned — even in a different form?
